
The 11th Songzhumei Scholarship Award Ceremony of the University Alliance was held in Hacienda Heights on July 27. Deputy Consul General Guo Zhiqiang of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles, Education Consul Wang Qun, US Congresswoman Judy Chu, San Gabriel City Councilman Ding Yanyu, George He, the representative of California Treasurer Ma Shiyun, Carol Cheow, CEO of the title sponsor Can Guo Foundation, and representatives of sponsors, about 50 guests, and about 300 award-winning students and parents attended the ceremony.
In his speech, Deputy Consul General Guo Zhiqiang praised the innovative measures of the 11th Songzhumei Scholarship, combining scholarships and grants into one, achieving the effect of 1+1 greater than 2. He particularly mentioned the project initiated by China to invite 50,000 outstanding American teenagers to visit China for study in five years, and a group of teenagers have already made the trip. He encouraged Chinese students to return to China to experience the great changes in their motherland for themselves.
Li Shan, the chairman of the organizing committee of this year's scholarship program and president of the University Alliance, said in her speech that a total of 93 students won the Songzhumei Scholarship, which aims to encourage and improve the academic performance and social activities of Chinese children, and encourage them to integrate more into American society, thereby improving their competitiveness in the United States.
Zhang Ming, chairman of the organizing committee and chairman of the University Alliance Education Foundation, expressed the warmest congratulations to the students and parents who won the scholarships on behalf of the organizing committee, and thanked all sponsors for their generous donations; he also introduced several innovations made in this year's scholarship program. This year's scholarship is sponsored by the Southern California Chinese University Alumni Association Alliance and the University Alliance Education Foundation, led by the Southern California Alumni Association of Jiaotong University, and co-organized by the American Alumni Association of Xidian University, the Southern California Alumni Association of Shandong University, and the Southern California Alumni Association of Sun Yat-sen University; 11 alumni associations co-organized it, and it was supported by 13 alumni associations.
